Fuel prices in Glasgow: what to know
Glasgow is split by the M8, which runs right through the heart of the city, with the M77 and M74 feeding traffic from the south. That central motorway means lots of passing trade and a good spread of forecourts, but prices differ between the west end, the south side and the east, so it pays to compare.
Glasgow's Low Emission Zone covers the city centre and restricts older vehicles, encouraging many drivers to refuel out in the suburbs. Supermarket forecourts in areas such as Govan, Parkhead and the retail parks off the M8 are generally the cheapest, while smaller branded sites tend to sit at the higher end.
How to save on fuel in Glasgow
- Local tip. Supermarket forecourts just off the M8 in the suburbs are usually cheaper than stations near the city centre's Low Emission Zone.
- Compare before you fill up. Prices between nearby Glasgow stations can differ by 10p per litre or more — that's up to £5 on a single tank.
- Supermarket fuel is usually cheapest. Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons forecourts typically undercut branded ones.
- Avoid motorway services. Fuel on the motorway is often 15–20p per litre dearer than in town.
